so i found out from the surgeon whose gonna fix my busted up knee that i'm out for the rest of the year for just about all sports. sux!!! so i'm gonna focus on art.
i just scheduled my next show for April 5 2009 at district fine arts in georgetown. i had been wondering when/how i would ever have the time to prepare for my next show, since it has been two years now....and apparently this ACL cloud has a silver lining. i have some hot ideas i'm looking forward to exploring and i'm excited to finally have a show date on the calendar.

the original hot tranny mess
charlie came up with a great way for me to keep my cardio up after my knee surgery.
i tore my acl. now i need to decide between donor tissue from a cadaver or harvesting my own...
what do you think? if i can pick the cadaver, like from a catalog, that would be awesome.

dorthy draper
i'm obsessed with dorothy draper right now. my new kitchen must have been unconsciously inspired by her, i know now. if you don't her, she was the 20th century's first female interior decorator to break into the originally male dominated field. read up on her here or get the fab coffee table book "in the pink".
growing up, we used to go the greenbrier for holidays, and all of those florals and stripes, in shocking pinks and kelly greens, were a glorious backdrop to childhood memories, but suddenly seemed garish and dated in the 80s-90s, are now making a fabulous comback. her strokes, but with a modern, more subdued palette are now back in mode and even on display at the museum of fine art in fort lauderdale (a retrospective we were lucky to catch in february).
you can absolutely see her influence today in catalogs like brocade home... even in jonathan adler's work...and in the revival of decorative arts we see around us today. minimalism has never felt as boring as it does now.

wow - what a month or so...i was in miami for a few days last week and came back ready to blog about my trip (my annual sony ericsson tournament trip) and learned a painful lesson upon my return.
the day after i returned, a muscle in my leg was bugging me all day...we were walking the dogs down at the cherry blossoms and i had to continually stop to stretch the muscle in order to just simply walk. you would think i would have canceled my doubles match that night...wrong. i played...and at 2-all in the first set, i fell to the court in a heap while lunging at a backhand volley. my knee had buckled inward as i pushed off to move laterally and i saw stars for the next ten minutes. as my friend charlie put it (who was playing on the next court), "wow, that was like something off of Dynasty!"
ends up i was probably favoring the leg a bit because of the pulled muscle and must have moved in a strange way, which led to me spending the evening at GW with a torn ligament, next to a couple in the next ER booth that apparently nearly twisted each others thumbs off in some sort of cell phone/baby-mama incident. i couldn't hear the entire story, but at least i now know that "low, low, low" song can be purchased as a ringtone.
thanks to my friend david for getting my broken-up self to the hospital.
i've been in a brace all week and i'm ready to throw my crutches off the roof, but honestly, it hasn't been all bad. i think i'm learning to listen to that little voice that says "slow down" instead of telling it to "shut up". also, my dogs think that daddy now has robot legs and they love me anyway. milkshake licks my crutches and i think that is pretty cool.

here's a pic of the balenciaga heels that started the trend. i think they were like $1750...so you really wanted to be a trendsetter, or maybe a transformer (more than meets the eye), to wear them. prada's seem like a steal at $750...but would you want them? they are totally giving 'my little pony', right? you see the art nouveau influence in the heel, especially. i think i appreciate both efforts...but right now i hate them...but i bet when i see them in person i'm going to be trying to convince some poor gal to buy them...like strawberry shortcake...is she still around?

prada takes a decorative leap
so this is kinda cool...until the fish turns into a purse. i do find it interesting how decorative prada is this season...they are usually so restrained. those heels in the animatin are kind of fierce in person...sort of my little pony meets art nouveau. i'll see if i can find a picture of them and post them....they were featured in this month's vogue, i think...they also seem inspired by the work balenciaga has been doing. very cutting edge and toylike at once.

spice up your life b*tches
yeah it was pretty camp. yeah it was all gay guys and drunken girls. yeah posh spice is awesome, for no particular reason. but it was a fun as hell concert and they actually sang live.
totally horrifying but beautiful in the minimal storytelling. this might be an all time best video. and how hot is it that kanye is barely in it...this video sticks with you all day as you fill in the back story.

louis peed on all the fake plants. milkshake pooped in the lobby. disco ate everything and apparently has laser eyes. kimberly made fun of "miss dc" and threw her beer at her. rob kept it classy in a bowler hat and pointed out that "miss dc" was also keeping in classy by having her dog in a matching jacket that said "gold digger". i found out via an appearance on wonkette the next day that from the side view, i have "country teeth" (thanks kimmee)...to the orthodontist!
