amy sedaris's new book, i like you, is hysterical. she is always willing to take a chance and follow through for the laugh. there are also recipes in the book...but i don't really think the recipes are the main reason people will buy the book - the photographs are the best part. art directed like a better homes and gardens cookbook from the 50s (you know when everything was covered in gelatin?), her step by step directions on putting on pantyhose are priceless.

i guess this has been the week of evening events. last night lakritz adler had an event for their upcoming core designed project, moderno.
next i headed over to celebrate the 5th anniversary of julio murillo's group, mmg, at their exceptional property, logan heights. one of the best roof top decks in town on the penthouse units...talk to ken taylor if you want more information.

dc modern luxury magazine party
wednesday night, dc magazine had its first anniversary party at posh. i loved these golden badus that were walking around.
that's matt with lauren, the style auteur. below them is ben, tirzah, and robin...and again, the golden badus. now i know what erykah badu would look like spray painted gold, with wings, gogo boots and a magic wand...while moving in slow motion. awesome.

when you have to work on the weekend, at least turner classic movies ('high society') and netflix ('dancing lady') can keep you company. what is better on these wonderful grey fall days than classic black and whites.
how have i never seen dancing lady before? those old phony hollywood accents, joan crawford AND the three stooges - does it get any better? i remember as a kid watching tv on sunday mornings - blondie, the three stooges, and all those old cartoons where the general store comes to life at night and the mice live in the sardine cans. am i rambling? ok back to work...i need to see if i can get some dvds of that stuff...

i finished a really moving site last week, for maxwell lawton, a local artist who just recently past away. it was a very emotional project since half way through the project, maxwell passed away. please stop by and be sure to visit the gallery and spend a moment celebrating this artist's talented life.

uli was robbed. although i don't mind jeffrey (and how fun was it watching laura show her true colors - whackjob), i thought his show looked like a maternity line. uli's show was fantastic...back in september (during olympus fashion week), i had heard that uli's show had people ready to buy right off the runway, so she will be ok.

on saturday, mike and i visited catherine at greenfest, where she was representing her friends over at perfect organics.
i was impressed with the high level of design at this year's expo - other health/green/environmental conferences have always been heavy on the hemp, and light on the sexy. especially standing out was a company called pangea organics, whose web site is a wreck...but their packaging and booth graphics (and staff) were very hot. i bought a bunch of their soap for the excellent design of the package...and get this...after you open the soap, you can bury the packaging and a frigging tree grows. how cradle to cradle is that!? totally green, totally hot style.

last night, i went to the pet shop boys concert with my friend scott. other than the typical avant-garde style pet shop show, the best performance was this drunk guy in the 2nd row right in front of us. imagine the elaine-dance from seinfeld wrapped in a doughy, drunken package. his best dance move? getting his left foot stuck in the chair BEHIND him. how he did this, i do not know... but it was really entertaining to watch.

heartbreak! the dupont farmer's market now has a "no dog" policy...apparently there was a dog fight of some sort and an old person fell down. curses!
that has been our sunday morning ritual for years! disco will miss all the free apple slices.

i forgot the most important thing from the gunn lecture....we found out he is harry wardman's grandson! a little piece of dc trivia for you architecture buffs.

tim gunn spoke at the corcoran yesterday. the first half was a bit painful since it focused mainly on the history of academic politics at the corcoran and parsons, but the second half was much more interesting. he spoke about the importance of the commercial aspect of design, versus the beginning of his career when he was a sculptor and only needed to please himself.
i couldn't agree more.
in graphic design, just like in fashion, the goal should not be to impose your design views upon the client, but to provide solutions that the client may not have been able to visualize on their own all the while being sensitive to individual needs and the ultimate marketplace where the final product will reside.

there is something really high art about jackass. it is such low art that i think it loops back around to high with momentary flashes of brilliance... but then it plummets right back to the lowest of the low again. matt and i caught jackass 2 and i have to admit, those idiots put on a good show. granted, many times you have to look away from the screen to enjoy your popcorn and if you throw up easily....you might want to stay home. oh, and it is also the GAYEST thing on screen since brokeback.

why can't every night be saturday night??
david and sara make any evening memorable...mike (middle left) fell for a lovely lady saturday night...if she's reading this, find him here. speaking of lovely ladies, sara was joined by friends and fly-newcomers pary and matt, who became instant BFF.
