going through my images from the trip, this one might be my favorite, for obvious reasons.

this was the "guard" dog at our hotel in cartagena. he was only a year and half old, and still in training...or napping, one of the two.

training for the marathon in colombia was not easy - we were at higher altitudes and i could really feel it in my lungs. BUT - apparently, the running was worth it... i ran the full mileage of my race this weekend! that officially means i will finish my race next month. i'm not saying it will be pretty (i'll walk if i have to) but i will finish!

is everyone watching agassi on tv right now???? amazing match 6-7, 7-6, 7-6, so far...

by the way - there is a "business man" sitting next to me who has worked himself up into such a frenzy on his cell phone he has just given himself a nose bleed. i will be relocating.

i'm sitting in the avianca lounge in the bogota airport, which of course means one thing...i'm on my way home. working down here has been great...it is amazing what an internet connection can do. i have tons of great photos to go through and i am amazed at the amount of work i have been able to crank out while working up in the andes mountains. it is amazing what a beautiful view can do in terms of inspiration. i'm going to have to work on the view out of my office window in dc...

toucan love triangle

our hotel in cartagena, the santa clara, a historic convent converted into a wonderful hotel, featured a central garden... and a toucan love triangle. that's right, every morning during breakfast either lucas, mateo, or their love interest, clarita, would visit your table. apparently lucas had taken a bite out of mateo's tail feathers out of jealousy. clarita did not seem bothered by all the attention. lucas nipped rob's leg under the table one morning, but they made peace over a healthy chunk of croissant.

the other images are some shots from around cartagena. including my little sloth friend.

vultures in kalorama

no, that isn't a joke, or commentary on the inhabitants of one of dc's lovely neighborhoods. this morning i went out for my run but my legs weren't feeling up to the task - so i decided to listen to an audiobook (blink by malcolm gladwell) and just go for a long walk. it is amazing how much more detail you can take in while walking versus running. usually i'm thinking "don't get hit by a truck" when i'm running, but today i was able to focus on roof decks, gardens, painted railings, and most importantly, three vultures sitting on a garage in a kalorama alley. it was amazing. three prehistoric looking creatures just hanging out, being quite sweet with each other. i just stood there and watched them for the longest time while listening to malcolm telling me to trust my instincts. i promised myself to always take a camera whenever i go on long walks from here on out.

warn your kids: lady with a sharpie!

liz, over at pomp, just sent me this autograph she snagged last night from andre agassi.

hey liz, did you climb over a bunch of teenagers to get this? if you did, than you are awesome. i imagine you shoving ball kids out of the way and knocking 10 year olds over with your handbag ('move it little bitches!!')

you are my hero.

legends are, apparently, only human

just got in from watching agassi phone it in tonight at the legg mason. not a great match - it's a shame since it is his last appearance here in dc...at least he broke a racquet...never seen him do that before...after the match he gave the broken racquet to this kid. it was the only moment of levity...he just wasn't feeling it tonight...i'll see him again at the open in september - where he will surely hopefully bring his A game

black is the new black

is anyone else noticing the resurgence of black - especially black gloss? from shiny gloss black showing up in my kartell bourgie lamps to the packaging of the new pet shop boys' cd, black seems to be everywhere... or maybe it's just everything i'm buying right now. when mom and i were in miami, we strolled through the chanel boutique and black acrylic was all over the place there as well. start looking around...i bet you'll see it everywhere now too.
