2 for 2
well the second visit to FLY was just as strong as the first. my buddy and fellow designer david, who did the fantastic branding and site for the club, has been my host both times. if you haven't already seen the write ups in the post, or DC magazine, the site has sexy airplane/stewardess/pan am feel to it. braniff with a twist. great quick mixing djs keep the music moving and familiar, with the majority of the club on their feet by midnight. be sure to pay attention to the sharp aero-lifestyle details like jet fighter inspired ice bucket tables, peanuts in foil, and jets of air that shoot down from the ceiling periodically to cool down the hot crowd. the only thing missing is the call button to order another round.

quick trivia: a photograph i took of the club appeared in details magazine.

while i knew this news was coming one of these days -agassi retiring- this will be a tough day to handle. i remember when he won his first grand slam at wimbledon -i was jumping up and down on my parents bed and crying.

oh muccia. what a disappointment.

after years of "teasing" (read: being lazy) with a placeholder site, prada has finally launched a disappointing web site for their perfume line. i'll place the majority of the blame on architect rem koolhaas, who is responsible for the user-unfriendly $40 million flagship (read: disaster) prada store (discussed here), since he is listed on the credits for the web site. it's a mess.

it's a shame, since prada's contemporaries are coming out with some really slick, usable, and high-end sites, such as versace, louis vuitton, and gucci.

i did a little eco-tourism this weekend with cate and michael down in mexico. we stayed at azulic, part of the ecotulum resorts, in palapas (huts) that were quite luxurious even without electricity. everything was pretty damn cool...until nighttime. that's when the jungle throws down and then i was like - ok, seriously, where's the f***ing light switch. if you didn't leave everything in your palapa prepared for nighttime, it can be a little disorrienting to say the least. trying to find the matches and the candles, you are sure you just stepped on an iguana, not your flip flop. in colombia the lights go off all the time...but it is kind of fun because you know they are coming back on at any time. in tulum you are on your own till morning. hunker down and pray for daylight... or you can go to the bar where they have electricity and drink multiple pina coladas (my solution) at which point you no longer care and jungle huts again seem like a great idea.

a cuban cohiba cigar, a rising moon, and the sound of the ocean made for a perfect evening. oh, and bug spray. lots of bug spray.

movie update:

xmen III - why did this entire movie feel like it was brought to you by cheap haircolor and photoshop? it was so morally heavy handed and one dimensional. magnito would never have abandoned his hag like that.

capote - finally saw it on dvd and i wanted to punch him in the face, or was waiting for anyone in that small town to do the same

mission impossible III - i enjoyed it. don't tell anyone i saw it.

kathy griffin sliced and diced at the warner theater sunday night. she was very funny and didn't shy away from anything - which was especially fun when she hit on the state of politics in america. she seemed brighter and might i say happier than her last visit to dc in the fall. i'm guessing it has something to do with being in a proper theater than in that hole that is the improv (where she performed last time).
