how terrifying are burger king's new commercials? opening your bedroom window blinds to find a man in a plastic mask staring in??? total serial killer. i think there's another one too with the guy in the bed with someone when they wake up...yup, that makes me want a croissanwich - or maybe a big gun. what are the ad people behind this brill scary ad campaign thinking??

saturday night, we went to the kennedy center for "billie & me", a jazz tribute to billie holiday. great vocal performances by niki haris and diane reeves and joan osbourne, dressed as a wildly underdressed schoolteacher.

another "concert" review:

the dalai lama at the mci center (no opening band, no back up dancers) - best quote: "whenever i'm asked which religion is the best one, i reply by asking, 'well, which medicine is best?' to which people reply 'for what?'....'exactly', i say."

harry potter and the goblet of awkward child actors. somebody find a role for dakota fanning to play in the next movie...she'll whip this kids into shape and show them how it's done.

that is my review of the new HP movie: me no likey.

danielle radcliffe (harry) and even hermione are somehow worse this time around, with harry's acting consisting of nothing but a clenched jaw and heaving bosum. voldemort comes off as the only likeable character in the whole thing.

enjoy!

by the way, if you haven't picked up your copy of COADF, it's been released for a full 24 hours now, what is your excuse? don't make madonna mad...

even the grumpy ol' washington post gave it a glowing review.

speaking of favorite local spots, if you are in georgetown, stop by snap crepes and bubble tea on thomas jefferson street, around the corner from barnes and noble. it's a cute little shop (the owner is named margarita) with strange wonderful combinations. bubble tea might be the strangest thing in the world (black gummy tapioca "pearls" at the bottom of flavored tea which fly up an oversize straw) but it is quite habit forming once you get used to it. go for the green apple bubble tea and the satay chicken crepe, or the ham and chese with carmelized onions (be sure to have them add a dash of salt before they close up the crepes...things are a bit under-seasoned.)

thanks to cate for turning me on to the best coffee shop in town, azi's cafe at 9th and O streets. you are recognized as a regular (as well as your order), it's clean, friendly, and has fantastic baked goods. it is everything we wanted from the disappointing columbia heights coffee or dirty ol' sparky's (although sparky's does have great coffee if you are willing to be abused by the staff)

dear gwen stefani,
please do not tour again unless someone gives you a proper budget. last night's high school production of a concert was cute, kind of like my neice on halloween. also, learn that nobody sounds cool when they keep yelling "fairfax!". maybe next time clarendon and manassas can get a shout out too. you are in dc, take the time to find out where you are.

fire everyone associated with this tour, including the seamstress - oh wait, that's you. pirate diapers are not sexy- please burn them all. awkward, unfortunately, doesn't translate to sexy. where do i apply for a refund?

hollaback,
hk
