i got my dolly fix last night at constitution hall. i'm still too scared to meet her, but after three concerts in the front row, i think i might be almost ready...or just a little obsessed.

finally! a name with the face! the robert deniro-lookin' guy in the suits and newspapers that is always seen walking around dc finally gets mentioned in the press. i'm glad he's not just a figment of my imagination. the intowner mentions him in this story.

wow - although this may have been my least favorite season, last night's finale of six feet under was very powerful. even if you haven't seen it in a while, tivo it...it's amazing how much you genuinely care for all the characters and their final stories.

while i'm on a restaurant review kick, let's tackle dc's specialty - ethiopian. avoid adams morgan, most of the ethiopian joints there are on the touristy side and the food quality/authenticity (don't be scared of authenticity) is not very high. your best bet is "little ethiopia", the area around u and 9th streets. dukem is a safe bet with a nice little outdoor cafe. etete, on 9th, is also good, a little too contemporary, but friendly. my favorite is a smaller neighborhood restaurant on 9th street called abiti.

i'm feeling lazy right now, so i'll add links later...

two other reviews...bar pilar...beautiful bar...disappointing food and mixed drinks. grab a beer there and then eat somewhere else. worst chips and salsa in town (the menu states that they are made "in house" - trust me, this is nothing to be proud of. nothing like stale chips and sweet salsa)...but the country fried steak is worth a try and i've been told the lomo saltado over tater tots (yes, i said tater tots) is worth a try as well.

hanks oyster bar in the old trio's pizza place is a wonderful addition to the 17th street strip. wonderful interior and excellent food and beer. great bread and butter too (remember when restaurants used to serve that?)

there's a wonderful new restaurant in petworth, domku. head up georgia, and take a right on upshur...and right there, on a block where you would never guess it would be, is a charming restaurant specializing in eastern european/scandanavian fare. the interior is exposed brick and chandaliers with mismatched furniture (not crazy about that element, but oh well) OH! and great chalk boards and a lovely bar. i had a fantastic country paté with cognac and pistachios, followed by the swedish meatballs that came with the best mashed potatoes i've ever had. screw carbs. rob had the tenderloin and appeared happy - but then again, the cardamon flavored shots of vodka that they serve as an aperitif may have put the smile on his face.

i caught andy roddick at the legg mason tournament this weekend winning his second title there. i'm always amazed any players are willing to come at all to play in the sticky dc heat.
