our weekend hike to old rag mountain was sidelined by torrential rains - so we did what they did in olden times...we headed underground, although catherine missed out on her chance to touch the fried egg stalagmite. afterwards, since hiking was out, drinking was in. so with catherine charting out the blue ridge wine country on our map, we went motoring on a foggy, magical, and slow (hurray, i finally got to use my new fog lights) trek on skyline drive until we arrived at rappahannock cellars - kicking off a taste test and review of several VA wineries.

best overall - pearmund cellars
best tasting room - rappahannock cellars

not only is it a beautiful breath of fresh air for dc architecture, the new NAR building is downtown's first certified 'green' building. 10 years ago, while at uva architecture, green buildings were still a pipe dream that only a few architects with high profile clients like the gap ever materialized. now it appears that there are more companies willing to invest in sustainable buildings (tons of fresh air and light=happy healthy workers)...go see it at 500 new jersey avenue nw

dc will soon have the gehry addition at the corcoran and the lovely american indian museum has already opened...dc design and architecture is finally coming alive.

best recent celebrity quote:
"Natural? What is natural? Natural is not about the hair or the face. I do not believe in totally natural for women. For me, natural has something to do with food, something to do with vegetables."

i saw this today and had to take a picture. it's not often that you come across satan's car while walking through a parking garage. good luck with the karma police mr. hummer. yes, that is a big fat hummer, with, of course, Wildlife Conservationist license plates and a vanity plate that proudly reads "8 MPG", which i guess is code for "i'm going to hell".
