if you're in nyc, check out the "skin: surface, substance, and design" exhibit at the cooper-hewitt design museum...it's an international showcase of products, architecture, and digital media that explores the role of “skin” as outer surface and structural form.

ok, this is why she can't make it past the first round.
how cool is this! martina navratilova, 45, and her mixed doubles partner just knocked out the #1 seeds in the 1st round at the us open. this absolutely makes up for the kournikova disaster.

ok this is brilliant -i'm not sure why- but it just is. a german perfomance artist, angie hiesl, has suspended chairs throughout bogota 20 feet in the air with some elderly people sitting in them, just reading the paper.

well dc finally has a cool boutique hotel, the hotel monaco, with a great bar named "poste". it's located in the historic marble 1839 Tariff Building, in the revitalized area around the mci center, right near the spy museum... but it's a shame such a great piece of architecture is represented by one of the ugliest web sites i've seen in awhile. go grab a drink there and check out the patio behind the bar.

there are two great museum experiences to visit now: the incredible spy museum (go for the intricate architectural restoration if nothing else) and the julia child exhibit at the smithsonian's natural history museum.

ok, wow, how did it i manage to ignore my blog all summer??? well, first of all, the design world appears to be dormant for the summer so there isn't that much to comment on. luckily, i've been outside playing tennis instead of inside in front of my mac so please forgive me for the delay.
ok, here's a confession and a little more detail regarding the dolly concert...i waited over 5 hours in the hot d.c. sun to guarantee myself a front row seat. i now officially hate general admission... long live assigned seats. other than coming close to dehydration and a touch of heat stroke, it really was an amazing night. you need to pick up halos & horns if only to hear her version of stairway to heaven.
in other big news, we finally found a house and we close in mid-september...more details to follow as we get closer to the date.
